Feast of The Holy Name of Jesus

January 3 is the Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus. And, the month of January is dedicated to the Holy name of Jesus. Jesus is the most beautiful name of all time. In Hebrew, Jesus means “God saves”. Yet so many people use the name Jesus or Jesus Christ as a curse. Why is that? And, why do some people add an “H” between Jesus and Christ? What does the “H” stand for?

I have to admit that there was a brief period in my life in which I had the most terrible habit of saying “God” when I wanted to make a point. I don’t know where that habit came from, I have no acceptable excuse. I wasn’t raised in a household that used God’s name in vain. Yet, there I was using God’s name in vain. Most the time I didn’t even realize I was saying it. I realized one day what I said and after that, I worked to break that habit. It wasn’t hard to break the habit. I became super aware of, not only controlling my speech, but also of other people’s habit of using the Lord’s name in vain. At work, at that time, it seemed that not 20 minutes would go by before someone would use the Lord’s name in vain.

I broke my horrible habit of using God’s name in vain, but every now and again, it comes back. Every once and great awhile I will use God’s name in vain. I don’t know why or even where it came from, but talking without thinking, boom there it is. As soon as it comes out of my month, I apologize to God and to the person I was speaking to.

The name Jesus is all-powerful because of the person who bears it. Jesus is the son of God who came to save us sinners. And, it was Jesus who commanded us to pray in His name. On the feast of the Holy Name of Jesus and throughout the month of January, pray for reparation to Jesus for the blasphemies against His Holy Name.

Act of Reparation for Blasphemies Uttered Against the Holy Name

O Jesus, my Savior and Redeemer, Son of the living God, behold, we kneel before Thee and offer Thee our reparation; we would make amends for all the blasphemies uttered against Thy holy name, for all the injuries done to Thee in the Blessed Sacrament, for all the irreverence shown toward Thine immaculate Virgin Mother, for all the calumnies and slanders spoken against Thy spouse, the holy Catholic and Roman Church. O Jesus, who has said: “If you ask the Father anything in My name, He will give it to you,” we pray and beseech Thee for all our brethren who are in danger of sin; shield them from every temptation to fall away from the true faith; save those who are even now standing on the brink of the abyss; to all of them give light and knowledge of the truth, courage and strength for the conflict with evil, perseverance in faith and active charity! For this do we pray, most merciful Jesus, in Thy name, unto God the Father, with whom Thou livest and reignest in the unity of the Holy Ghost world without end. Amen.
